Full course description

Course Need and Goals: 

This online course is needed by inspectors to meet continuing education requirements.  The goal of the course is to provide participants an understanding of the components within the cage production systems, the differences between the different cage systems, and the similar production goals.  Based on the Needs Assessment, the development of this e-learning course will reduce the cost of training for inspectors.  The course goals are:  (1) gain an understanding of the components within the cage production systems, (2) learn about the different cage systems, and (3) highlight the similar production goals.

6. Student Outcomes: 

After completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Identify and describe different layer housing systems
  • Describe the interaction of the hen with the different environment components
  • Analyze how hazards are impacted within this production system primarily associated with microbiological hazzards to which the hens may be exposed
  • Explain in writing how the system minimizes hazards and enhances egg safety.
